Penny Jar

Eating a sandwich by a river,
It's a nice tonight's dinner,
As you think of the book you last started.
Nothing's mundane here,
Not even the paper,
That receipt that you got had those funny words.
And far away,
The skies are grey,
And people, they're at work,
They're paying bills and writing wills and crying.
And here you are with your penny jar and a smile upon your face,
You are alone, alone, but not lonely.
I got a lover with a toothache,
He'll be gone by next Tuesday,
Meeting someone for coffee,
But I'm already late.
Conversations I'll remember,
And others that won't venture past the point of the weather,
I'd rather get home.
And far away,
It's a sunny day,
And people, they're at work,
They're making plans and shaking hands and growing.
And here you are with your penny jar and a frown upon your face,
You're not alone, not alone, but you're lonely.
And what's so bad about home anyhow?
They got parks to write songs in,
They got parties to go to and places to see,
They even got people you don't understand.

Words

I said I love storms,
He said I love the sound of the rain,
I said I love you.
She said I want change,
He said I want you to believe there's sometimes good in staying,
She said I'll never go.
And the words came out,
They showed up saying not quite what they meant in the first place,
And the days kept on,
People left wondering what happened to the words they said.
He said I need a beer,
She said I need to hear some music,
He said I need you.
She said I hate films,
He said I hate when people tell me all their boring dreams,
She said I dream of you.
And the words came out,
They showed up saying not quite what they meant in the first place,
And the days kept on,
People left wondering what happened to the words they said,
The thoughts that they once had,
Floating around somewhere.
He said I found my keys,
I said I found just what I please, and that's to be with you,
He said I love you too.

Maisy

Maisy,
How'd you get so crazy?
Was it something they put in your drink?
I think you know the answer.
Maisy,
How's about a daisy?
Would you like one to put in your coat?
I hope you like the color.
Wandering late in the night while I am sleeping,
One eye I am keeping open for you.
Crawling about on your paws until you've found something,
Well you've found something in me.
Maisy,
How'd you get so crazy?
Was it something they put in your drink?
I think you know the answer.
Maisy,
How's about a daisy?
Would you like one to put in your coat?
I hope you like the color,
I like the color of you.
